Fruits of the Spirit: Day 1 - Introduction

Galatians 5:22-23 -- "But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!"

The Fruits of the Spirit are spontaneous works that the Holy Spirit fills us with. They are the characteristics found in the nature of Christ. When we want to be more "like Christ," we are praying for the Holy Spirit to work in us in these ways.

These are traits that are not natural in the world. It is by our relationship with Christ that these traits become a true part of our character.

When we join our life with Christ, we become part of His Kingdom and He protects us and guides us along our path.

John 15:4 -- "Remain in me, and I will remain in you. For a branch cannot produce fruit if it is severed from the vine, and you cannot be fruitful unless you remain in me."

Jesus says to "remain in me." When we know Him, love Him, remember Him and imitate Him, we fulfill His intended purpose over our life. Through this connection He cultivates the Fruits of the Spirit from us. They help us accomplish His greatest law -- to love God and love our neighbors.

God first sent the law. Then He sent His son to fulfill the law. Now He provides the Holy Spirit, which is in perfect harmony of the intent of God's law. By exhibiting the Fruits of the Spirit, we fulfill the law completely. Even more so than one who observes rituals with no love in their heart.
